Summary
The project aims to provide support for cooperatives affected by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing the appropriate infrastructure to improve production and marketing processes in order to enhance opportunities for sustainability, continuity and development. The following is a presentation of the main activities implemented within the project: 1) Developing a methodology for selecting the targeted grassroots institutions within the project activities 2) Implementation of field visits in order to assess the needs of the targeted grassroots institutions within the activities of the project and the distributors on the West Bank governorates, which are Qalqilya, Nablus, Salfit, Bethlehem and Hebron by 10 residential communities. 3) Inventory of specifications and quantities for the required equipment and tools based on an assessment of the needs of the targeted base institutions, which focus on developing the production and marketing infrastructure. 4) Implementation of guidance and counseling sessions for workers in economic projects affiliated with grassroots institutions in the field of pricing, food processing, networking mechanisms and sales methods in order to improve the chances of developing and sustaining the work of economic projects. 5) Enhancing the capabilities of cooperative members in the field of managing existing small projects and e-marketing, which contributed to enhancing the participants’ awareness of managing small projects, and the participants became skilled in managing their projects in terms of administrative, marketing and financial aspects. 6) The total number of members of the General Assembly for the targeted grassroots institutions within the project reached 1,734 members, distributed as follows between males and females, with 842 male members, 892 female members. 7) 45.5% of the targeted grassroots institutions work in the field of food manufacturing, while 27.3% work in the field of economic and service empowerment, and 27.3 work in the field of agricultural production and marketing of agricultural products.
Project Objectives
1. Support farmers and herders including unemployed workers with inputs and/or Cash for Work (CFW) opportunities 2. Support (inputs, tools, capacity building) youth start-ups, women-led small businesses, and cooperatives affected by COVID-19 to boost their production capacity, food security and livelihoods
