Summary

The EMIRGE program had the goal of facilitating sustainable, market driven cooperatives that increased member incomes by maximizing member resources and dramatically increasing shared resources to reduce poverty in highly challenging envi-ronments and with marginalized actors. To achieve this goal the program had three objectives: 1) To build the capacity of cooperatives so they can develop market based businessstrategies 2) Strengthen cooperatives’ ability to mobilize those skills and link to markets and services in high value market systems and 3) to contribute the collective body of knowledge that supports and enables new and increasingly effective tools and approaches available to the development community for enhanced cooperative development.
