Nourishing Prosperity Alliance (NPA) is an innovative partnership among private agricultural firms, international research institutions and non-governmental organizations focusing on animal nutrition as a pathway to human food security and the advancement of women’s economic empowerment. Leveraging the world-renowned agricultural expertise and capabilities of Corteva Agriscience, Forage Genetics International (FGI), Bidco Land O’Lakes (Kenya-based Land O’Lakes joint venture), Land O’Lakes Venture37 and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), NPA serves as a selfsustaining channel for catalytic investments to upgrade women dairy farmers’ productive capacity and income-earning potential. This pilot initiative is guiding women farmers in methods that bolster nutrient-rich forage production - providing reliable feed for dairy cattle, improving milk production, and reducing the production cost of dairy products. NPA’s private sector-driven model empowers women as the primary agents to increase the supply and quality of nutritional dairy products available to their local communities and drive the competitiveness of the Kenyan dairy industry. Through Training, TA and Research, KNPA is Building the entrepreneurial capacity of commercial dairy farmers to produce and sell high quality forage as well as Building the capacity of smallholder dairy farmers to increase the productivity of their livestock. During the first two years, 5,658 smallholder farmers and 48 emerging farmers were trainned on improced forage practices. 14 Forage adaptive management plots were established and managed, while 17 contractors were training on improved foreage practices and business management.
