Summary
Focusing on the key role played by women in promoting sustainable agri-food systems, the project aims to strengthen two strategic value chains that are essential for food security: the production of locally sourced, farmer-produced forage seeds for livestock and the dairy value chain.
Building on the findings of the needs assessment carried out by the project partners, FASSA is structured around three complementary areas of intervention:
Empowering women farmers and producers
by strengthening their decision-making power and leadership within agri-food economic organizations. In each target area, a group of Women Leaders will be established to develop, through a participatory process, Women's Agenda identifying priority needs and challenges related to inclusion and participation, while proposing practical solutions through the implementation of pilot initiatives.
Promoting the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices
Members of participating cooperatives will strengthen their knowledge and skills in the fields of the social and solidarity economy, agroecology and cooperativism. They will also take part in a technical and organizational support process aimed at sustainably strengthening the different stages of the two value chains. Demonstration plots will be established to produce and promote locally adapted forage seeds suitable for local ecosystems and capable of improving both the quality and quantity of milk production.
Strengthening networks of collective economic organizations and Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) actors
at regional, national and international levels by fostering the exchange and capitalization of good practices among organizations operating in the three target regions, while promoting dialogue with the broader SSE ecosystem. Particular attention will be given to advocacy actions aimed at aligning the legislative framework with the principles of the socio-ecological transition.
Project Objectives
