Summary

The project is implemented in the Districts of Nguame and Majune in Niassa Province, Mozambique by FOFeN - Forum of Women Organisations of Niassa. The main focus of the project is to combat malnutrition amongst children between 0 and 18 years of age.

Project Objectives

The overall goal of the project is: Improved food security and nutritional status of children aged 0-18 years old in Niassa, Mozambique. The expected results of the projects are the following: 1. Improved nutritional status of children and adolescent girls, as well as for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. 2. Promoted positive behavioural changes and nutritional practices using different communication channels and 3. Improved food security for the families through the combination of food production, conservation and processing. The target groups include 1 500 children aged 0-8 with malnutrition problems. The second direct group are 3 500 expecting and breastfeeding mothers. The third direct group is 2 500 men who are husbands of the 3 500 expecting and breastfeeding mothers. Forth, with a minimum of 5 500 boys targeted within schools. Fifth, 120 people (75 women and 45 men) will participate in the workshops on food conservations. Sixth, 120 people (75 women and 45 men) that will participate in the cooking demonstrations. Eigth, the project will also target 91 project agents and 30 mothers/local leaders. Main activities include use of media to disseminate information on nutrition, training on setting of home gardens, identification of children with malnutiotion and refer them to health centres, training on nutriotion and agriculture in primary schools.
