Summary
The Youth4Coops project aims to strengthen the role of young cooperators working in agri-food sector cooperatives, by promoting the digital and green transition within agricultural cooperatives in Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme and by the Directorate for Education and Youth Programmes (Turkish National Agency), the project is implemented in partnership with Haliéus, Legacoop’s structure for international cooperation, the Turkish cooperative Genç İş Kooperatifi of Izmir, and the Agrupación de Cooperativas Valle del Jerte, all members of the European cooperative movement.
Through a training and international mobility pathway, the project offers participants the opportunity to develop skills, exchange experiences, and contribute to the sustainable modernization of the agri-food cooperative sector.
Project Objectives
The project contributes to the empowering young men and women members of agri-food cooperative members in taking up executive roles in their respective cooperatives. During the training session of the project, youth participants will be able to (1) learn the technical aspects digital and green transformation in agri-food cooperatives, (2) sketch their own transition roadmap based on self-identified needs, (3) contemplate on managing the transition in a participatory, inclusive, and sustainable manner. The training is a hands-on exercise which will deliver concrete results for participants that they can execute when back to their working environments. Having access to information sources as well as in-person exercises through peer-to-peer exchange are necessary conditions for empowerment. While this may not be sufficient, this activity seeks to trigger a first spark and a sense of capability among the participants. At the end of this activity, participants were motivated and able to assume leadership roles in their cooperatives in order to roll our digital and green transition at the cooperative level.
