Project Objectives

The project is focused on promoting the financial inclusion through secured cooperative savings and credit (micro-finance) services, which comes under the consortium project of 5002. Social Mobilization Development Foundation (SMDF) implements this project in Hambantota, Monaragala, Rathnapura and Matara distircts targeting 36,938 women and 1,152 men in these locations. Thus, the project aims to strengthen the self-banking and primary women branches in promoting the women and youth empowerment, improve the knowledge on the cooperative concept and making a gender sensitive society within the two organisations and as well as within the targeted communities. At the end of five years, it is expected to increase the access to fair financial resources for the marginalized rural women and have increased women led groups and sustainable women led enterprises in cooperative approach.
