Summary

Implemented by Socodevi, the TRACC project aims to strengthen the adaptation of rural women and young women to climate change in Guéra Province, Chad. The project works simultaneously at household, group and cooperative, and institutional and community levels. Mid-term results show tangible progress in women’s empowerment, the adoption of climate-adapted agricultural practices, and the strengthening of cooperative capacities. The Women’s Empowerment Index increased from 0.527 to 0.744, reflecting improved participation of women in economic decision-making, access to productive resources, and agency. The project has also increased knowledge of resilient agricultural solutions, improved access to innovative climate change adaptation solutions, and progressively supported the development of climate-smart products and services within groups and cooperatives. Inclusive governance dynamics have also improved, although their institutionalization remains partial.

Project Objectives

The project objective is to increase the adaptation of rural women, young women, and their communities to climate change in Guéra Province, Chad. More specifically, the project seeks to: 1) increase the adoption of gender-sensitive and biodiversity-supporting agricultural adaptation solutions; 2) improve the effectiveness of groups and cooperatives in developing climate-smart food systems with and for women producers of groundnuts and sesame; and 3) strengthen inclusive and equitable climate governance of natural resources in support of women’s and young women’s adaptation to climate change.
